Trench coats, on the other hand, have become a definite symbol and figure of the heroic detectives, and even spies, depicted by Hollywood. But this does not mean that trench coat originated in the Hollywood movies and films. Instead it actually originated during the times of World Ward I in the UK when officers of the British army actually wore them as an option instead of their usual uniform. In so doing, the British army even commissioned the first ever company to make trench coats for them, it was Burberry.

The coat had its name since they were worn in the trenches. It so happened when the military men complained one time how their coat was being entirely ruined because of the trench mud, and because of this Aquascutum, another company commissioned, was then asked to make double breasted coats entirely made for men and this time with detachable lining. And in the US, the first company to ever make trench coats was London Fog Company, and until this very day London Fog Trench is still rather popular.

After several decades, the making of trench coats had undergone very minimal changes in style; it happened that from long skirts to short ones and to long again. The actual length of this coat actually varies from the fashion sense of the time; and even though the short trench coat has already gaining popularity, the long one can still be found around.

We are also introduced to the coats called camel hair long coat. This is actuality is really pure camel hair that is gathered whenever the animals molt in warmer climates and seasons and then will be processed very well. A camel's hair is also a fiber that gives out warmth without any added weight. The undercoat can be very soft and definitely separated from the dense or even coarse guard hair that is used fro cloth. Any product containing or made from camel hair must be really dry cleaned or even hand washed. Joseph and Feiss have come up with luxurious collection of expertly tailored sport coat which can be a very good addition to any man's elegant wardrobe.

Another type of long coat is the two-button suit jacket that has become a universal standard due to its frame-lengthening qualities. It has a classic and enduring appeal. This kind of coat can accentuate those men who have short torso. J. Crew Italian chino Aldridge two-button suit jacket has been woven from the finest mill qualities of Crespi mill. You can also try Versace Collection of men's stripped suit for peaked lapels, long sleeves with button cuffs and flap jackets.

As it goes, the trench coat first became popular during World War 1 after originally being developed for the British military. And the classic design is not too dissimilar to what is now recognised by many as the traditional trench coat - double breasted with slotted pockets, an adaptable collar and four buttons.

Elements of the original trench coat design that were created for practicality, are now just included for style. Different designers now re-create the trench coat to provide a range of different features around the same style. Indeed, fashionistas can now choose from double breasted or single breasted, cropped or full length, belted and even wax-coated.

So, why has the trench coat developed such a strong appeal, year after year? One obvious reason is the British weather; trench coats can provide a practical but trendy cover-up. Furthermore, they have an all-weather appeal, with designs including a removable liner, which can last you through all seasons.

Furthermore, the key trends in recent times for men's coats include the duffle coat, the pea coat, leather coats and blazers. However, for something a bit more adaptable, a short coat such as the cropped or three quarter length trench coat provides that extra flexibility in style.

The professional choice for businessmen, trench coats are no longer just for wearing over suits; now trench coats can compliment a range of styles and outfits from casual jeans to smart trousers. Indeed, the coat lends itself to the sophisticated and 'structured casual' look.

And it's not just a good raincoat; the trench can provide a certain romantic film-like finesse to your wardrobe. As such, famous style icons and trench coat wearers include Katharine Hepburn and Humphrey Bogart, to name but a few. In fact, they have also been spotted being worn by politicians and artists alike; and the fashion has also been adopted by sports stars such as Serena Williams, who strolled onto court at Wimbledon 2008 with a pristine white cropped version.

Trench coats remain in fashion but the fabrics and styles adopted continue to update. With a range of fabrics from tartan to classic grey wool and a variety of lengths from cropped, full length and three quarter length, the trench coat has been brought back into this century.

Of course, bringing a classic up to date can be difficult, as it involves embracing the original elements of the design with new features that will appeal to the current trend setters. But trench coats continue to retain their popularity year after year, season after season. So if you have never owned one, it may be time for a new addition to your wardrobe.
